The FastBots widget is a standard JavaScript snippet, so it works with Drupal 7, 9 and 10 — anywhere you can add code to the HTML head of your active theme. If your theme doesn't expose that field directly, you can add it through a custom block or a head-tags module.
+
No. There's no FastBots module to install. You paste one script tag into your theme's HTML head area, save, and the widget loads on every page. That keeps the install lightweight and avoids module conflicts.
+
Not automatically. The crawler reads publicly available pages. If you need the bot to answer from logged-in content — member areas, intranets, document libraries — upload those documents directly to FastBots as PDFs, DOC or text files instead of relying on the crawl.
+
The widget loads asynchronously, so it doesn't block your page render. The script is small and lazy-loads the chat interface only when the visitor opens it. You shouldn't see a meaningful change in Lighthouse or Core Web Vitals scores.
+
Not natively. The chatbot doesn't make live API calls to other tools during a conversation. What it can do is capture appointment requests or enquiry details in the chat, then push them to your CRM, spreadsheet or email list through a Zapier or Make workflow once the chat ends.
+
FastBots states its data handling is GDPR compliant. You control what content is used for training, you can make the bot private, restrict it to specific domains and add password access. For public sector and council sites, you'd typically link to the bot from your existing privacy notice.
+
It doesn't have to. Many Drupal sites keep the contact form for formal enquiries and use the chatbot for quick questions and lead capture. The bot can also collect structured details inside the chat — name, email, reference number, message — and email them to your team like a form submission would.
+
You set the fallback in Tune AI. Most sites configure something like "I don't have that information — would you like me to take your details so the team can follow up?" That captures a lead instead of losing the visitor, and Knowledge Assistant (Business plan and above) shows you which questions kept hitting the fallback so you can add answers.
+
Yes. You can change colours, the avatar, the welcome message, the placeholder text, suggested questions and the lead form copy. On Premium and above (or via an add-on) you can also remove the "Powered by FastBots" branding.

There's a free plan with 1 chatbot and 50 messages per month — no credit card required. Paid plans start at $39/month for Essential. Live chat handover, auto retrain, knowledge assistant and email replies are on the Business plan ($89/month) and above.
